Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence—Legal Action Project
Overview
The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence is the largest national, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence. The Brady Center works to reform the gun industry and educate the public about gun violence through litigation and grassroots mobilization. The Legal Action Project, which is based in Washington, D.C., brings lawsuits throughout the United States to see that the gun industry is held accountable for its dangerous or irresponsible practices.
The Focal Point's Role
Since 1993, The Focal Point has successfully supported a number of legal projects for the Brady Center including:
Being a counsel of record in the landmark case Merrill v. Navegar, Inc. (litigation arising from the mass killings that took place in lawyer offices at San Francisco's 101 California Street) and providing trial graphics and strategy assistance for the Legal Action Project's cases nationwide Helping the Brady Center prepare materials for various congressional briefings Developing graphics for numerous reports including "No Gun Left Behind" and "Forced Entry" Providing graphics for City of Gary v. Smith & Wesson Corp., where the Indiana State Supreme Court reversed a lower court ruling dismissing the City's claims and rejected virtually every argument made by the gun industry against the suit Working with a team headed by Michael Bloomberg on a case against gun manufacturers for flooding New York City with guns.
