Kay County v. Freeport-McMoRan
In a rural county’s suit against a major international mining company, this case stemmed from the historical use of a smelter’s by-product as road construction material dating back to the early 20th century. The county alleged soil and groundwater contamination among other claims against the smelter—closed over forty years—seeking damages and additional environmental cleanup.
The Focal Point’s Role
The Focal Point worked with counsel and experts to visually reinforce key themes of the case, including exposure assessments, sampling results and techniques, historical industrial practices, and relevant industrial site comparisons. The Focal Point’s Media Production Department also worked with counsel to video and photograph key areas of the site, culminating in an interactive “virtual tour” with the goal of putting the county’s claims into real-world perspective.
